Solar and battery installation for the way you use energy
Choose a complete solar PV system, add storage to existing panels or install a home battery that charges from the grid during cheaper periods.
Solar panel installation
A solar PV system designed around usable roof space, electricity consumption and your goals. Add battery storage now or plan a system that can expand later.
Battery storage installation
Store surplus generation from existing solar panels or charge from the grid on a suitable off-peak tariff. We’ll help identify an appropriate capacity.
Add batteries or upgrade
Need more usable storage, a replacement inverter or a wider system upgrade? We can assess compatibility and quote suitable equipment.
Home battery storage - with or without solar panels
You do not need a new solar installation to benefit from home battery storage. A system can be retrofitted to existing PV or installed independently to charge from the grid.
- Store surplus generation from existing solar panels
- Charge during cheaper off-peak tariff periods
- Use stored electricity when grid prices are higher
- Monitor generation, storage and household use through an app
- Discuss optional backup power where compatible and correctly designed
- Choose expandable capacity where future growth matters
Designed around the numbers - not simply the biggest system available
A useful quotation should consider how and when you use electricity, the constraints of the property and what you want the system to achieve.
ESM Installations combines The Eco Supermarket’s equipment knowledge with professional survey, installation and commissioning.
1. Your electricity use
Annual consumption matters, but the times of day you use energy can be just as important when sizing storage.
2. Your property and equipment
Roof area, orientation, shading, supply type, consumer unit and any existing solar equipment all affect the design.
3. Your priorities
Bill reduction, solar self-consumption, off-peak charging, future EV use and backup requirements can lead to different solutions.
4. A clear proposal
The quotation sets out the recommended equipment, storage capacity, installation scope and next steps.
From first enquiry to a commissioned system
Start with a few details. We’ll establish what is required before asking you to commit to anything.
Step 01
Initial enquiry
Send your postcode, contact details and whether you need solar, battery storage or an upgrade.
Step 02
Assessment & design
We review your electricity use, property and existing equipment, requesting photographs or bills where helpful.
Step 03
Clear quotation
You receive a proposed system and scope of work, with equipment and installation requirements explained.
Step 04
Install & commission
Once agreed, the work is scheduled and the system is installed, commissioned and documented as quoted.
0% VAT on qualifying installations until 31 March 2027
Qualifying solar PV and electrical battery storage installations in residential accommodation currently benefit from 0% VAT. Under current legislation, the temporary zero rate is scheduled to finish on 31 March 2027, after which the reduced 5% rate is expected to apply. Eligibility depends on the property and nature of the supply; government rules may change. Read the current HMRC guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Useful starting points before we assess the details of your property and existing system.
Yes. A standalone home battery can charge from the grid, commonly during cheaper off-peak periods on a suitable tariff, and supply stored electricity later. The likely benefit depends on your consumption pattern, tariff, battery capacity and system efficiency.
In many cases, yes. An AC-coupled battery is often used to retrofit storage without replacing the existing solar inverter, although compatibility, metering, available space and the existing electrical installation must be assessed first.
Possibly. Expansion depends on the battery model, generation, firmware, age, inverter compatibility and the manufacturer’s permitted configuration. Send us the make, model, serial details and photographs so the options can be checked.
We consider annual and daytime electricity use, roof space, orientation, shading, existing equipment, tariff and future plans such as an EV or heat pump. The aim is a sensible design for your goals—not automatically the largest system that will fit.
Not automatically. Backup or emergency power requires compatible equipment and a system specifically designed and wired for that purpose. Depending on the equipment, options may range from selected circuits or a dedicated socket to wider backup arrangements.
Qualifying installations of solar PV and electrical storage batteries in residential accommodation currently benefit from 0% VAT. The temporary zero rate is scheduled to finish on 31 March 2027 and the reduced 5% rate is expected to apply after that date. Eligibility is confirmed for the specific supply.
The required design, network application, installation, commissioning and certification can be included as part of the proposed scope. Requirements vary, so the final quotation will state exactly what is covered.
Installation enquiries are welcomed from across the UK, with coverage subject to the project and installer availability. Enter your installation postcode in the quote form and we will confirm whether we can assist.
